About Our Teachers

All of our ChineseVoice teachers are trained and experienced native Chinese teachers, the majority of which live and teach directly from Beijing. Our teacher recruitment process is meticulous and teachers that are chosen to work with us undergo additional training in online teaching. Also, during the course semester teachers are evaluated by our academic staff as well as by the students.

How does it work?

•      Our language programs are all based on a virtual class in which students take part using video conferencing technology via the Internet.

•      Teachers use a digital whiteboard, presentations, images and audio files and control and direct the rhythm of the class based on the progress and the needs of each student.

•      Each lesson features assessments, drills and comprehension checks. Before each class, students are required to complete homework exercises from a workbook assigned to advance.

What else will you get?

In addition to the virtual lessons that take place via video conferencing once or twice weekly, students receive the following learning tools:

•      Weekly after-school hour: Additional meetings with a teacher once a week during which students can ask questions about the course material.

•      Forum: A 24/7 Q&A forum managed by one of our Chinese teachers where students can ask questions and receive answers about course-related issues.

•      Homework check: Homework is checked by staff members and returned to students via email. Answers are sometimes also available for download over the Internet.

•      Textbooks: Course materials are sent to registered students by post before the course begins.

Program Structure, Target Audience and Gains

ChineseVoice offers 3 levels of courses from complete beginners (A) through Intermediate (B) to advanced (D). All courses last for 30 weeks and all lessons last for 55 minutes.

Course At the end students will: A ¡¤         Be able to construct basic sentences in Chinese using basic grammatical structures. ¡¤         Have acquired a vocabulary of about 400 words ¡¤         Have basic conversation skills on a variety of topics, including greetings, shopping, orientation, transportation and more ¡¤         Know all Chinese tones, which are vital to pronunciation ¡¤         Be familiar with the Pinyin transliteration system used to transliterate Chinese. B ¡¤         Be able to exchange information? and construct everyday sentences in daily situations in a more confident and fluent way, using more advanced grammatical structures ¡¤         Have acquired an additional 450 word vocabulary ¡¤         Be more confident and fluent with Chinese pronunciation D ¡¤          Be able to communicate effectively and appropriately in Chinese in a more confident and fluent way, on a larger variety of topics including Chinese culture. ¡¤          Be able to construct sentences with a special emphasis (i.e. It was by train that my parents came from Beijing.") ¡¤          Know how to construct sentences with two consecutive clauses ("although...nevertheless"; "if...then"; "because...therefore")
